Internships

Senator Cantwell offers seasonal internships in her Washington, DC, and Seattle offices to highly motivated and organized students and recent graduates interested in serving Washingtonians and learning more about the United States Senate.
Working in collaboration with the Senator’s professional staff, interns will have an opportunity to contribute to a variety of office priorities including policy and legal research; memo and speech writing; attending, analyzing, and transcribing Congressional hearings and briefings; communication tasks including drafting press releases, video editing, and graphic design; front office operations, including engaging with constituents in-person and on the phone and conducting staff-led Capitol tours; and contributing to constituent outreach, casework, and correspondence.
We are currently accepting applications for our Summer 2026 internship cycle, which will run from June 2026 – August 2026. Applications will be open from February 25 – March 18, 2026. In addition to completing the online form below, a resume, and cover letter are required to complete your application. Applicants with a demonstrated interest in public policy and connections to Washington state are strongly preferred. As needed, our office is able to offer both part-time and full-time positions and an hourly wage of $15.00 for a limited number of hours per week. We are also happy to work with your school so you can receive academic credit for your time in our office.

State interns work with staff members in Senator Cantwell’s offices throughout Washington state, directly interacting with the public and learning firsthand about the constituent advocacy process. Interns will help field constituent requests, communicate with federal government agencies, research, and interact with the public and local groups. Interns may attend briefings with concerned citizens and organizations. Generally, interns must be able to commit to 15 hours per week (minimum).

LegislativeLegislative interns work primarily with the policy team but will be asked to complete administrative tasks as needed. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: attending hearings and briefings, leading tours of the U.S. Capitol, answering phones, researching legislative initiatives, drafting constituent correspondence, and more.
