Senator King Opens Fiscal Year 2025 Congressionally-Directed Spending Portal for Maine Organizations Seeking Federal Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senator Angus King (I-ME) today announced the opening of his Fiscal Year 2025 Congressionally-Directed Spending (CDS)online portalthat will allow Maine nonprofit entities, state and local to apply for consideration to receive direct federal funding for eligible projects that will have significant, measurable impacts across the state.
Authorized in 2021 on a bipartisan basis, CDS funding is included in annual federal appropriations legislation at the request of one or more Members of Congress and provides a specific amount of discretionary funding to a state, locality, or nonprofit organization for projects with demonstrated civic and community value.The currentdeadline for submissionsis 5:00 PM on Monday, April 22, 2024.The deadline may be extended pending additional guidance from the Senate Appropriations Committee.
“The Congressionally-Directed Spending process provides a valuable opportunity for local Maine governments and nonprofit organizations to receive critical funding to support projects that will improve the lives of hardworking people across our state,”said Senator King. “I’m excited to announce the 2025 Fiscal year portal is now open and I want to invite local governments and nonprofits to explore the available CDS opportunities and submit an application. I look forward to reviewing submissions and working alongside my colleagues to deliver for Maine communities.”
The Fiscal Year 2025 federal appropriations process will permit Congress to directly fund Maine projects in the form of Congressionally-Directed Spending (CDS). In the Fiscal Year 2024 spending bill, Senator King, alongside the entire Maine Congressional Delegation,secured over $450 million for 185 projectsacross Maine. Senator King’s office will hold two virtual sessions to provide additional information about the CDS application process onFriday, April 12 at 11:00 AMandTuesday, April 16 at 11:00 AM. To register, emailCDSRequests@king.senate.gov, with the subject line “FY25 CDS Info Session,” and state which session you would like to attend.

Under current rules, the entity submitting a CDS request must be a state or local unit of government, or a nonprofit organization.
