Hearing your priorities

Dear friends and neighbors, One of the most important parts of my job is hearing directly from the people I represent. That’s why I recently hosted another telephone town hall with Ohioans from northwestern Ohio, giving constituents the opportunity to ask questions, share their concerns, and discuss the issues that matter most to them. Whether it’s making life more affordable, protecting children online, strengthening election integrity, or tackling our nation’s growing debt, these conversations help shape the work I’m doing in the U.S. Senate on behalf of Ohio families. On our recent call, we discussed a number of issues affecting Ohioans, and I appreciated everyone who took the time to join the conversation and share what matters most to them. During the town hall, I also asked participants for their thoughts on tax relief for working families, teaching patriotism in our schools, and protecting children online. Here’s what they had to say: The Working Families Tax Cuts Act eliminated taxes on tips and overtime, increased the child tax credit, and gave seniors a $6,000 tax deduction while expanding tax relief for families so they have more money to save, invest, and spend on their own priorities. As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, we should remember the values that have made our nation strong. I believe our schools should teach the next generation about our nation’s history, the sacrifices that secured our freedom, and the responsibilities of American citizenship. Ohioans agreed. Children are increasingly being targeted online by predators, sextortion schemes, and drug traffickers. I am working on legislative efforts to strengthen federal protections that would give parents more tools to keep their children safe and hold bad actors accountable.
