Vindman Statement on Trump’s Corrupt Firing of U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) today released the following statement after the firing of U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert for the Eastern District of Virginia: “As a former prosecutor, I know firsthand that justice must be guided by the rule of law — not the whims of any president. “Donald Trump’s decision to fire the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia is a direct assault on the independence of public servants who work every day to keep our communities safe. “U.S. Attorneys serve as the chief federal law enforcement officers in their districts, entrusted with upholding the law fairly and impartially — free from political influence. When their independence is compromised and these offices are wielded as tools of retribution, it weakens the rule of law and erodes public trust in our justice system. “You’d think this kind of political interference would alarm conservative Republicans who claim to value law and order. Instead? Crickets.” ###
