January 29, 2025 Congressman Shri Thanedar Stands in Solidarity with Federal Workers, Condemns Buyout Scheme and Anti-Worker Policies Washington DC – Today, Congressman Shri Thanedar reaffirmed his strong support for federal workers and labor unions, condemning recent actions by the Trump administration that threaten job security, undermine worker protections, and destabilize essential government services. “The federal workforce is the backbone of our country, ensuring that millions of Americans receive the services they rely on every day,” said Thanedar. “The administration’s so-called ‘buyouts’ are nothing more than a forced purge of dedicated public servants, designed to create a toxic work environment where employees feel pressured to leave. This is an attack on workers and an attack on the stability of our government.” The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) has warned that these buyouts will result in unintended consequences, causing chaos for the American people. The number of civil servants has remained largely unchanged since 1970, despite an ever-growing population that depends on federal programs and services. Eliminating career employees en masse will create service delays, disruptions, and confusion at every level of government. Thanedar also condemned the reinstatement of ‘Schedule F’ , a policy that removes civil service protections, making it easier to fire federal employees without cause. He called on the administration to reverse course and engage in meaningful dialogue with labor unions to protect federal workers’ rights. “And how can we trust a president who has a history of not paying people what they’re owed to fairly compensate federal workers?” Thanedar added. “This is nothing more than an attempt to weaken our government and undermine dedicated public servants.” “These actions will not only hurt workers, they will hurt veterans, seniors, small businesses, and families who rely on the federal government every day.
