Sullivan Leads Effort to Correct CCP’s Revisionist WWII History

WASHINGTON—To mark the shared sacrifices of the United States and Nationalist China (formally known as the Republic of China, whose government is now based in Taiwan) during World War II, the chairs of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China(CECC)—U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) and Representative Chris Smith’s (R-N.J.)—announced a joint, bicameral effort to challenge the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) attempts to rewrite World War II history and claim undue credit for Allied victory in Asia.
The chairs have introduced House and Senateresolutionsto document the historical record of U.S.–Republic of China cooperation during World War II; condemn the CCP’s “stolen valor” historical revisionism, and recognize Japan’s postwar contributions to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. The bicameral effort highlights that freedom in Taiwan, democracy in Japan, and stability across the Indo-Pacific are the result of courage, sacrifice, and an accurate accounting of history—not the CCP’s revisionist narrative.
“The Chinese Communist Party routinely employs propaganda and censorship to construct a distorted narrative about its past and present actions that are at odds with actual history,”saidSullivan. “Congressman Smith and I urge our colleagues to join us in passing our resolution to call out the CCP’s deception about the Allied Victory in World War II and urge the Trump administration, via public diplomacy and media outreach, to highlight the sacrifices and heroism of America’s veterans and those of our allies and partners, including the Republic of China, which helped halt the march of tyranny in the Indo-Pacific during one of the darkest chapters in human history.”
