National Police Week: Rep. Crank Votes for Bills to Lower Crime and Ensure Accountability for Violent Criminals

May 14, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Representative Jeff Crank (CO-05) voted in favor of a series of bills in support of lowering crime and ensuring accountability for violent offenders during National Police Week, including H.R. 5625, the Cashless Bail Reporting Act, and H.R. 6260, the Keeping Violent Offenders Off Our Streets Act. The Cashless Bail Reporting Act requires the Attorney General to publish a list of each state or local jurisdiction that permits the release of an individual charged with a clear threat to public safety including murder, rape, and rioting without having to pay bail. This bill will help shed light on the irresponsible jurisdictions across country that are willingly letting violent criminals back on our streets. The Keeping Violent Offenders Off Our Streets Act defines bail bonds as insurance products, which subjects them to federal insurance fraud laws and allows states to provide regulatory oversight for corporate, for-profit, and nonprofit entities that post bail on behalf of defendants. This bill also prohibits charitable bail funds from making materially false statements in any financial reports or documents sent to an insurance regulatory official or agency.
