Congressman Moran Votes to End CCP Infiltration of U.S. College Campuses

Washington, D.C. ­– Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01) – a member of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) – voted to support Congressman August Pfluger’s (R-TX-11) legislation that would put an end to CCP infiltration of American college campuses. “Today, House Republicans took a decisive stand against the Chinese Communist Party by passing Congressman Pfluger’s legislation to safeguard our college campuses from the growing influence of the CCP,” said Congressman Moran. “Confucius Institutes threaten not only academic freedom but also our national security. This legislation ensures that taxpayer dollars do not go toward funding CCP-aligned organizations associated with U.S. universities, and reaffirms our commitment to protecting students, preserving academic integrity, and defending American values against the harmful influence of the CCP.” Specifically, the DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act would prohibit the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from providing funds to any higher education institution that hosts Confucius Institutes, which are nonprofit cultural and educational centers funded by the CCP. That prohibition would also apply to institutions that have financial relationships with Chinese universities or colleges that meet other criteria such as receiving funding from or providing support to elements of the CCP. ###
