Webster Votes to Pass Balanced Budget Amendment

Washington, D.C. — Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, voted to pass H.J.Res. 139, legislation proposing an amendment to the Constitution requiring the federal government to operate under a balanced budget. “This amendment would ensure that spending is aligned with revenues, requiring lawmakers to make the same tough decisions about government spending that as families and small businesses make every day.,” said Rep. Webster . “For two years, Congress has adopted budgets that have reduced spending year to year, but much more work is needed to restore fiscal responsibility. A Balanced Budget Amendment would require every Congress from here on out to more responsibility manage the nation’s finances.” H.J.Res 139 would force our country to live within its means by requiring all spending bills passed not exceed total revenues. Webster added, “I have long advocated for a return to a more responsible budget process, and I believe that commitment starts with personal responsibility. That is why I have reduced my congressional salary and office budget every year, returning the savings to the Treasury as a small but meaningful step toward restoring fiscal responsibility.” ###
