DeLauro Statement on Pardoning of January 6 Rioters

January 21, 2025 Press Release Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement in response to President Trump’s decision to pardon January 6 th rioters: “I was here on January 6 th – any insinuation that the rioters who assaulted the Capitol that day were anything less than violent offenders is an insult to the brave police officers and Capitol staff who put their lives on the line to defend our democracy. President Trump’s decision to pardon these individuals does nothing to help Americans or bring down their cost of living. In fact, it unleashes a torrent of convicted violent criminals into our streets. “This decision sends a clear message to those who would commit political violence on President Trump’s behalf: I’ve got your back. This is a clear-cut abuse of his authority.”
