On 14th Anniversary of DACA, Congressman Menefee Celebrates Dreamers and Speaks Out Against Trump Administration

June 15, 2026 Press Release HOUSTON, TEXAS — Today, Congressman Christian D. Menefee (TX-18) joined Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) and community leaders in Houston to recognize the 14th anniversary of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and reaffirm support for Dreamers and immigrant families across Texas and the country. More than 60,000 Dreamers call the Houston metropolitan area home, contributing over $ 255 million annually in federal, state, and local taxes and generating an estimated $846 million in spending power. Across Texas, roughly 90,000 Dreamers help drive the economy, strengthen the workforce, and enrich communities. Nationwide, more than 500,000 individuals continue to rely on DACA protections as they work, pursue their education, raise families, and contribute to the country they call home. Congressman Menefee was the 212th co-sponsor of the American Dream and Promise Act , legislation introduced by Congresswoman Garcia that would provide permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and other eligible immigrants. "Dreamers are part of the fabric of Houston. They are our neighbors, coworkers, classmates, and friends who strengthen our communities every day. They deserve the opportunity to live and work without fear, and our immigration system should reflect our values by recognizing their contributions, keeping families together, and treating every person with the dignity and respect they deserve,” said Congressman Menefee. Since taking office, Congressman Menefee has been a strong advocate for immigrant communities and has consistently spoken out against policies that separate families and create fear in immigrant neighborhoods. Earlier this year , he joined Congresswoman Garcia on an oversight visit to the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, where they witnessed firsthand the inhumane conditions faced by detained families and children.
