The Veterans Resource Fair featured more than 15 organizations focused on providing veterans with access to health care, employment opportunities, and housing resources. Congresswoman Nikema Williams then led the Veterans Town Hall, opening the event with remarks before turning it over to a panel of five experts in veteran services. The panel included Shelly-Ann Simpson-Cunningham with the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, Jeremy McKenly Walker with Helmets to Boots, Stewart Williams with Veterans Empowerment Organization, Dr. Ifetayo I. Ojelade with A Healing Paradigm, and moderator Dawn Thomas with Tejavon Community Center and A Vet’s Pride. Questions from veterans included how the VA claims process works, how congressional offices can assist with the process, and what professional development and entrepreneurial opportunities are available to veterans. Congresswoman Nikema Williams said: “The best way that I can thank our veterans is to fight for y’all. To fight for you in Washington, D.C., and to fight for you right here at home. That’s why town halls like tonight’s are so important. And I like to tell the stories, and I cannot do that without being with the people and hearing your stories so that I can share them on Capitol Hill when we’re introducing legislation.” “When I have the opportunity to speak to you, hear your questions, and learn about the issues that you face every day, I bring those stories and concerns back to the halls of Congress when I’m in D.C.” “Because in Washington, I’m taking action out loud and on purpose on your behalf.” “You dedicated your lives to service and you best believe I’m dedicating my life to serving you right here in the United States Congress. So, just as the speakers and participating partners here tonight dedicate themselves to serving the community, count me as a co-conspirator for justice, because we’re in this together, y’all.” Congresswoman Nikema Williams highlighted legislation she has championed to benefit veterans, including the Return Home to Housing Act, which passed in 2025 and increases funding for transitional housing for homeless veterans.
