U.S. Senate Passes Resolution Honoring Lou Holtz

WASHINGTON –Last night, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Jim Banks (R-Ind.) honoring the life of Coach Lou Holtz and his enduring legacy of faith, family, and the pursuit of excellence. The resolution celebrates Coach Holtz’s legendary career as a college football head coach along with the traditions he instituted at the University of Notre Dame, including the ‘‘Play Like A Champion Today’’ sign and the removal of individual names from the back of jerseys to emphasize teamwork.
“Lou Holtz spent decades investing in college athletes and encouraging them to become the best versions of themselves on the field and in life. I’m grateful for the impact Coach Holtz made at Notre Dame, and we celebrate his life and legacy. Go Irish,”said Senator Young.
“Lou Holtz meant a lot to Indiana and to Notre Dame. He helped shape generations of players and his impact will be felt for a long time to come,”said Senator Banks.
Full text of the Senate resolution can be foundhere.
Rep. Rudy Yakym (R-IN-02) is expected to introduce a similar resolution in the House of Representatives.
