Marshall Bill to Support Health Care Providers Passes House
DENVER, CO –
The House today passed bipartisan legislation to improve communications between health insurance carriers and providers. HB26-1241 passed the House by a vote of 56-9.
“When providers are notified of changes in health insurance reimbursement rates or coverage, they can make informed decisions in running their business,”
said Rep. Bob Marshall, D-Highlands Ranch.
“This bill modernizes notification requirements to include email and certified mail, so that health care providers have the most up-to-date information about what is included in their contract, including compensation and covered services.”
HB26-1241
is also sponsored by Representative Brandi Bradley, R-Roxborough. The bill updates communication requirements for health insurance carriers when making changes to provider contracts, such as reimbursement, disputes or duration, among others. Under current law, health insurance carriers must provide written notice of a change in coverage or reimbursement rates to providers at least 90 days before the effective change. This bill modernizes communications to require insurance carriers to provide written notice by email. If two email notices go unacknowledged, then a carrier must provide notice through registered mail to ensure providers receive them.
Under this bill, health care providers and administrators would be able to make better informed decisions when running their practice and developing care plans with patients.
