Letlow Introduces FRESH Act to Reform Dietary Guidelines

April 30, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Julia Letlow introduced legislation promoting healthier eating for Americans by codifying the Trump Administration’s recent changes to dietary guidelines into federal law. The FRESH Act (Food Reform for Effective and Sustainable Health) codifies the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2025-2030, encouraging Americans to focus their diet on healthy, whole foods while reducing consumption of ultraprocessed foods. “The Make America Healthy Again movement has fundamentally changed the conversation around food in America, forcing us to look closely at the drivers of chronic diseases and childhood illnesses,” said Congresswoman Julia Letlow . “Our farmers and ranchers produce real, nutritious food that should have a prominent place on every American’s dinner plate. By putting President Trump’s new guidelines into law, we can ensure that future bureaucrats can’t turn back the clock on the MAHA movement.” The guidelines reform the preexisting food pyramid by focusing on the consumption of higher quality, whole foods. Such changes include: Prioritizing high-quality, nutrient-dense protein in every meal Prioritizing whole grains over refined carbohydrates Prioritizing healthy fats from whole food sources, such as meats, poultry, eggs, omega 3-rich seafood, nuts, seeds, full-fat dairy, olives, and avocados. Avoiding highly processed foods Avoiding added sugars as part of a healthy or nutritious diet Avoiding high-levels of carbohydrates for individuals with certain chronic diseases More information on the guidelines can be found HERE . ### Issues : Agriculture Health Care
