Congressman Begich Applauds House Passage of Law Enforcement Legislation During National Police Week

May 16, 2025 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 16, 2025 – This week, Congressman Nick Begich (R-AK) voted in favor of a series of pro-law enforcement legislation that will support and protect America’s men and women in law enforcement who selflessly serve our communities. “As we honor the bravery and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the country during National Police Week, the House took action to support our law enforcement officers with the resources they need to continue protecting our families and communities,” said Congressman Begich. “I’m proud to have supported this slate of pro-police legislation that upholds law and order and improves officer safety. Alaskans know the value of public service and the courage it takes to put on the uniform. This week and every week, I will keep fighting to ensure our law enforcement officers are protected, respected, and backed by sound policy.” National Police Week legislation includes: H.R. 2240 – The Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act Congressman Begich was proud to co-sponsor this piece of legislation that provides protective equipment and wellness resources to law enforcement officers and requires the Department of Justice to report to Congress about violent attacks on law enforcement officers. H.R. 2243 – The LEOSA Reform Act This legislation removes burdensome restrictions on the concealed carry rights of qualified active and retired law enforcement officers. It ensures that our officers are empowered to protect themselves and others in places such as school zones, national parks, and other public areas. H.R. 2255 – The Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act Rather than wasting millions of taxpayer dollars destroying service weapons, this legislation allows federal law enforcement officers to purchase their retired firearms at salvage value. The legislation helps agencies recoup costs and reduce wasteful spending. ###
