Hickenlooper Calls for Passage of Bill to Ban Conversion Therapy Nationwide

Comes after SCOTUS ruling to overturn ban in Colorado
WASHINGTON –Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper called for the passage of hisTherapeutic Fraud Prevention Act, which would ban conversion therapy nationwide.
Hickenlooper’s demand is in response to the Supreme Court’s decision inChiles v. Salazar, a decision rejecting a Colorado law that protects youth from the inhumane practice of conversion therapy. This decision puts the safety and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ Americans around the country at risk.
“Conversion therapy is cruel and inhumane, plain and simple. This SCOTUS decision is dangerous for LGBTQ+ Americans,”Hickenlooperwrote on his social media accountsfollowing the Supreme Court decision.“Our LGBTQ+ community deserves safety, acceptance, and love. We won’t ever let up in our fight for a better nation.”
Hickenlooper, a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, hasconsistentlyfoughtto ban conversion therapy andensurethat LGBTQ+ people have access to high-quality health care.
TheTherapeutic Fraud Prevention Actis endorsed by the Congressional Equality Caucus, Human Rights Campaign, PFLAG, American Academy of Pediatrics, Equality California, National Association of School Psychologists, Christopher Street Project, and Advocates for Trans Equality.
