One year of helping Ohioans keep more of what they earn
Dear friends and neighbors, This week marks one year since the Working Families Tax Cuts Act was signed into law. I backed this plan because it delivers real tax relief for Ohio families, workers, seniors, and local businesses. Ohio workers and job creators are already seeing the benefits. From restaurant employees who rely on tips, to business owners creating jobs, the Working Families Tax Cuts Act is helping hardworking Ohioans keep more of what they earn and invest in their future. Hear from Ohioans here ! What Ohioans are saying John, co-owner of the Winking Lizard Tavern, said that roughly 900 of their employees have benefited from the law. He emphasized that eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay have made a significant difference for workers, including Mike, a bartender at the Winking Lizard, who said it was the best tax return he’s ever had, allowing him to save, invest, and pay down credit card bills. Shaun, CBO of Ohio Gratings, said the law has helped the company create more jobs. It has also allowed Ohio Gratings to employ students participating in Ohio career and technical education programs, providing valuable workforce opportunities while supporting the company’s growth. Through no tax on overtime, Jeremy of Ohio Gratings was able to purchase a home! Whether you’re raising a family, working overtime, earning tips, or running a business, this law helps you keep more of what you earn while supporting economic growth across Ohio. Lower taxes for Ohio families The Working Families Tax Cuts Act put more money back into the pockets of hardworking Ohioans by: Giving seniors up to $6,000 in tax deduction individually. Cutting taxes on tips and overtime pay. Increasing the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 per child. Providing an estimated average tax cut of approximately $2,308 for Ohio households in 2026. Supporting local businesses & creating jobs Ohio’s local businesses are the backbone of our economy, creating jobs and strengthening communities across our state. This law gave employers the certainty they needed to invest, expand, and hire more Ohio workers by: Making the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent. Allowing full expensing for machinery, research and development, and new factories. Reducing taxes for more than 12 million small business owners by roughly $7,000 on average, according to the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Expanded write-offs of interest costs Creating better-paying jobs and supporting Made in America manufacturing. I’ll continue fighting for policies that reward hard work, strengthen Ohio’s economy, and make life more affordable for families across our state. As always, it is an honor to serve you in the U.S. Senate. Your U.S. Senator, Jon Husted
