Warren Calls for Bipartisan Action to Eliminate Debt Limit
Washington, D.C. – In response to President Donald Trump’s recent Truth Social post , U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) released the following statement in support of eliminating the debt limit: “Donald Trump is right about this: Eliminate the debt limit—its only real function is to threaten an economic crisis. I’m ready to work with both Democratic and Republican Senators to immediately scrap the debt ceiling and protect the economy.” A recent estimate from the Bipartisan Policy Center projects that the U.S. will hit the debt ceiling in early to mid-2027. In June 2025, President Trump posted on Truth Social that he “agree[s] with Senator Elizabeth Warren on SOMETHING…[t]he Debt Limit should be entirely scrapped to prevent an Economic catastrophe.” In response, Senator Warren published a New York Times op-ed making the case for “scrap[ping] the debt ceiling once and for all.” ###
