Courtney Statement on King Charles III’s Address to Congress
April 28, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee and Co-Chair of the bipartisan Friends of Australia Caucus, released the following statement on King Charles III’s address to Congress. “King Charles III’s affirmation of AUKUS and the standing ovation that it received by Members of Congress are another strong message of the UK and the U.S.’s shared commitment to our security agreement with Australia,” Courtney said. “In the 1950s, Congress amended the McMahon Act to share the United States Navy’s nuclear propulsion technology with the United Kingdom. This was the last time, until AUKUS, that the United States shared the ‘Crown Jewels’ of its nuclear technology. Today, the U.S.-UK ‘special relationship’ is charting new waters with Australia for the security of all three nations.” ### Issues : AUKUS News Defense & National Security Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee
