Cornyn Praises NSF’s $25 Million Investment in Texas A&M for Materials Research Infrastructure

Cornyn Praises NSF’s $25 Million Investment in Texas A&M for Materials Research Infrastructure News Cornyn Praises NSF’s $25 Million Investment in Texas A&M for Materials Research Infrastructure August 3, 2026 WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement praising the U.S. National Science Foundation’s (NSF) announcement of a $25,000,000 award to Texas A&M University to build a Materials Innovation Platform (MIP) facility, which will utilize robotics and AI to accelerate the research and development of materials that can withstand extreme conditions, including those essential for national security and energy dominance: “Congratulations to Texas A&M on receiving a generous $25 million investment from the National Science Foundation to construct a Materials Innovation Platform that will help create new alloys for everything from military vehicles to nuclear reactors,” said Sen. Cornyn. “This award is yet another example of how there is no better place to innovate than the Lone Star State, and I look forward to seeing the advancements that this high-tech facility will help support.” Background : The NSF Autonomous Robotic Metallurgist Materials Innovation Platform (NSF ARM-MIP) at Texas A&M University will integrate robotics and AI into one laboratory capable of creating new alloys in a short timeframe. The applications for these alloys include fuel-efficient jet turbines, stronger armor for tanks and other vehicles, radiation-resistant materials for nuclear reactors, corrosion-resistant bridges, and biocompatible implants. Alloys usually take up to a decade to be created and utilized, and once constructed, the ARM-MIP will accelerate that process.
