February 5, 2026 Press Release Washington, D.C. – Congressman Chip Roy’s (R-TX-21) SAVE America Act ( H.R.7296 ) will be voted on by the U.S. House of Representatives next week, Majority Leader Steve Scalise announced late Wednesday night. Last week, Congressman Roy and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced the SAVE America Act—a new and improved version of their widely supported SAVE Act. The SAVE America Act adds a Voter ID requirement for voting in federal elections while maintaining the original bill’s proof-of-citizenship requirement for voter registration. “I’m encouraged that the House will vote next week on the SAVE America Act—a bill supported by 80 percent of Americans across racial lines. The American people are clear: they support Voter ID and agree that only U.S. citizens should vote in our elections. Once the bill passes the House, Leader Thune must bring it to the Senate floor and force Democrats to explain why they oppose securing our elections,” said Congressman Roy . The SAVE America Act would protect and preserve the right of American citizens to vote by: Requiring individuals to present an eligible photo identification document before voting. (NEW) Requiring states to obtain proof of citizenship – in person – when registering an individual to vote. (From original SAVE Act) Requiring states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls.
