Dingell, Van Hollen, Markey Release Statement on Lawsuit Against EPA Attempts to Roll Back Climate Bank Funding

Today, U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), and U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), authors of the National Climate Bank Act, released the following statement regarding the lawsuit filed Saturday by Climate United against Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, and Citibank for withholding funds from the National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF), which, along with the Clean Communities Investment Accelerator (CCIA) are programs part of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) and held in Citibank N.A accounts: “The Trump Administration’s malicious and unfounded attacks on the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) have resulted in a sham investigation and unsubstantiated funding freeze. We worked to establish the GGRF within the Inflation Reduction Act to spur private investment that would create jobs, lower Americans’ energy bills, and strengthen our climate resilience. Following an extensive and transparent awards process under the previous administration, the GGRF has begun doing just that. This Administration’s baseless attacks on these investments will only cost jobs, increase prices, and harm our communities. It is critical that this funding be resumed immediately.”
