McConnell Meets with Stoltenberg
Washington, D.C.
–
U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, issued the following statement today on his meeting with Jens Stoltenberg, incoming chairman of the Munich Security Conference:
“I was glad to welcome former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to the Capitol. Under his leadership, America’s European allies made great strides toward sharing the burden of collective defense, and at his urging, they turned overdue attention toward growing threats to shared interests in the Indo-Pacific.
“We agree that President Trump’s stated commitment to peace through strength demands even greater commitments, and NATO’s 2% spending target must be a floor, not a ceiling. Encouraging further progress across the alliance means leading by example, and I look forward to working with Senator Chris Coons on rebuilding America’s own military capabilities and defense industrial base.”
L-R: U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and Chairman Mitch McConnell in the U.S. Capitol.
