McCaul Statement on Conflict in the DRC
January 28, 2025 Press Release WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) — chairman emeritus of the House Foreign Affairs Committee — issued the following statement on the conflict in the DRC. "I join Secretary Rubio and the Trump administration in strongly condemning the Rwanda-backed M23 Rebels' assault on Goma and the Congolese people. The fighting in Eastern Congo — enabled in part by the Biden administration's failure to uphold the Luanda Process — has created a rapidly-escalating humanitarian crisis, displacing millions of innocent civilians and threatening a broader regional conflict. All parties must immediately come to the table and act to put an end to the fighting. "While the U.S. stands with the Congolese people in demanding M23 cease its brutal military campaign, all parties — including protestors in Kinshasa — must refrain from violence. Attacks on our U.S. embassy and its personnel will not be tolerated.” ### Issues : Foreign Affairs
