Kennedy announces $12.1 million in Louisiana disaster recovery

WASHINGTON – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $12.1 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) aid for Louisiana communities recovering from Hurricanes Ida and Francine and the Severe Winter Storm Fern. “Louisianians know how quickly severe weather can turn lives upside down, but our people always get back on their feet. This $12.1 million will help communities recover from Hurricanes Ida and Francine and the Severe Winter Storm Fern by repairing damaged facilities, clearing debris, covering recovery costs and strengthening drainage systems to reduce future flood risks,” said Kennedy. The FEMA aid will fund the following: $3,400,928 to Iberia Parish for the design, purchase, and installation of eight permanent generators to provide emergency backup power to critical facilities, helping ensure uninterrupted operations during power outages. $2,500,000 to Lafourche Parish for the development of a comprehensive stormwater and drainage master plan to increase drainage capacity and reduce flood risk. $1,380,490 to St. John the Baptist for the installation of eight permanent and two portable diesel generators to significantly reduce the threat of failure to function and improve its ability to maintain critical services in the event of future power outages. $1,229,841 to New Zion Baptist Church of Gramercy Inc. for permanent repairs as a result of Hurricane Ida. $1,026,551 to the City of West Monroe for Public Assistance Alternative Procedures Debris Removal operations as a result of the Severe Winter Storm Fern. $797,553 to the Office of Risk Management — University of Louisiana: Student Event Center — for building exterior and other related components repair or replacement as a result of the Severe Winter Storm Fern. $785,618 to Richland Parish for jurisdiction-wide debris removal operations as a result of the Severe Winter Storm Fern. $241,022 to the Lafon Nursing Facility of the Holy Family for building exterior and interior repair or replacement as a result of Hurricane Francine. $200,808 to Plaquemines Parish for costs related to the management of Public Assistance grants as a result of Hurricane Francine. $171,470 to the Office of Risk Management for building exterior and other related components repair or replacement as a result of the Severe Winter Storm Fern. $170,046 for management costs for Iberia Parish to install eight generators. $125,000 to Lafourche Parish to fund management costs for Lafourche Parish to develop and oversee contracts, process invoices, submit reimbursement requests, monitor project progress and prepare quarterly reports. $69,025 to St. John the Baptist for management costs to install eight permanent and two portable diesel generators.
