Neguse Issues Statement After Federal Judge Strikes Down Trump Administration CMS Rule Threatening Medicaid Access for Cancer Patients
October 30, 2026 Press Release “Every American should be able to access the care they need to survive.” Lafayette, CO — Colorado Congressman Joe Neguse issued the following statement after a federal judge struck down a rule issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that would potentially strip healthcare coverage from cancer patients. The Rule’s purpose was to implement standards enacted by Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans disastrous H.R. 1, the Big Ugly Law. “This ruling is a tremendous win for families like mine who have been impacted by the scourge of cancer. Every American should be able to access the care they need to survive. And any efforts to undercut support for patients in need of life-saving care should be called precisely what they are: cruel and unconscionable. I refuse to turn my back on the millions of Americans diagnosed with this ugly disease, and I am heartened to see the rule of law prevail against attempts by the Trump administration and Congressional Republicans to make it harder for cancer patients to access and stay on Medicaid coverage.” Neguse, whose immediate family has been impacted by cancer, was vocal in his opposition to the CMS Rule from the get-go. He slammed the rule on the House Floor, calling on colleagues from across the political spectrum to join him in supporting healthcare for vulnerable patients. Alongside Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Neguse also led the entire House Democratic Caucus in a letter to CMS urging the agency to reverse course. ###
