Congresswoman Ross Statement on Trump’s Harmful Tariffs

Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement on President Trump’s tariff announcement: “Trump’s latest tariffs will not ‘liberate’ the American people – they will drive up costs, make inflation worse, stifle the growth of jobs and businesses in North Carolina, and threaten a recession. “Trump has proven time and time again that he only cares about profits for the wealthiest Americans. While he escalates a costly trade war that is causing chaos in our markets, it is ultimately working families who will pay the price with higher taxes on everyday items, including groceries, gas, electronics, cars, and homes. In North Carolina, our agriculture and manufacturing industries will feel significant pain from this action. “Congress has the constitutional authority to regulate trade policy, and Democrats will work with anyone willing to combat these disastrous tariffs.”
