Congressman Eric Sorensen Announces $500K in Federal Funding for Rockford and Peoria projects

Image February 10, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) is proud to announce that two community projects in Illinois’ 17th District are included in the FY26 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD), and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. The legislation includes $500,000 in Community Project Funding secured by Congressman Sorensen to support public safety and infrastructure improvements in Rockford and Peoria. “These projects came directly from listening to our communities and responding to their needs,” said Congressman Sorensen. “This funding will help keep families safer and make our streets more reliable for everyone who uses them. I’ll continue fighting to bring federal dollars back home and make sure they’re put to work in ways that improve daily life for our neighbors,” “We are grateful for Representative Sorensen’s leadership and commitment to securing funding to expand operations at the Rockford Family Peace Center,” said Jennifer Cacciapaglia, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention. “This funding will allow us to address violent crime and provide improved services to youth survivors of domestic and sexual violence.” “When our roads and intersections are made safer, our children and families are safer. Peoria Forrest Hill Avenue and Sterling Intersection - $250,000 •    The funding is to improve traffic safety and modernize critical road infrastructure.
