Rep. Subramanyam Statement After Bill to Extend the ACA Tax Credits Passes House

January 8, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) released the below statement after the House passed a bill to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits for three years. Congressional Republicans refused to extend the tax credits ahead of their expiration on December 31st. The bill passed 230-196. The Congressman issued the following statement: “Extending the ACA tax credits has always been an imperative. We cannot allow health insurance premiums to skyrocket when families are already facing high costs. This vote should have happened months ago, but instead House Republican leadership decided they would rather shut down the government than save health care. Without this extension, four million Americans stand to lose their health insurance, burdening small businesses and saddling families with higher out-of-pocket costs and medical debt. It is clear that we need comprehensive changes to our health care system to make it more affordable and accessible. I will continue to fight for lower costs and quality, affordable care for all Virginians.” Residents of Virginia have until January 31st to switch plans on the Commonwealth’s ACA marketplace.
