Bell Introduces Legislation to Rename St. Louis Post Office Honoring Chuck Stone

March 2, 2026 Press Release Washington, D.C.— Today, Representative Wesley Bell (D-Mo.) introduced legislation to designate the United States Postal Service located at 8390 North Broadway in St. Louis, Mo. as the “Chuck Stone Post Office.” “Chuck Stone deserves to be remembered and celebrated in St. Louis,” said Rep. Bell. “I am proud to introduce this bill to honor his legacy of service as a Tuskegee Airman, a civil rights leader, and a trailblazing journalist. He fought alongside Martin Luther King Jr. for the Black community during an incredibly turbulent time in American history, and I will carry his lessons with me as I continue my work in Congress. By renaming this post office in his honor, future generations will be reminded of his lasting impact and be inspired to advocate for change just as he did.” Charles “Chuck” Stone Jr., born in St. Louis in 1924, was a journalist who fought for equality during the height of the desegregation movement. He served as a Tuskegee Airman in the U.S. Army Corps, traveled the world helping with foreign aid projects, and was the first President of the National Association of Black Journalists. He went on to be a professor, sharing stories and lessons from his illustrious career to classes of aspiring journalists. He passed away in 2014 at the age of 89. Read the full bill text here .
