Husted, HUD Secretary Turner visit youth transitional living community

Jon Husted (R-Ohio) today hosted U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner for a visit to Huckleberry House in Columbus to see its transitional living program, which provides young people with support and resources as they work toward independence. “Having started my life in foster care, I am always encouraged by the work Ohioans are doing to support young people in need. Huckleberry House is helping young Ohioans build the skills, stability and independence to successfully transition into adulthood. I was glad to host Secretary Turner today in Columbus to see this work firsthand and learn more about how we can continue supporting young people as they build a foundation for a successful future,” said Husted. “It was a privilege to visit Huckleberry House with Senator Husted and see firsthand the important work being done to support young Ohioans navigating challenging circumstances. Their work shows what’s possible when government and community partners work together to give vulnerable youth the support and opportunities they need to succeed,” said Turner. For more than five decades, Huckleberry House has supported young people in central Ohio facing challenges such as homelessness, family conflict and mental health struggles. This work builds on Husted’s support of youth aging out of foster care. He is leading the CONNECT Act , this bipartisan bill would deliver necessary updates to the John H. Chafee Foster Care Program for Successful Transition to Adulthood program to focus on helping youth in foster care from ages 14 to 21 develop meaningful connections with lifelong support networks and plan for independence. This includes housing, education and employment assistance.
