Senator Molly Cook on the Passage of House Bill 7

the senate of the state of texas
The Honorable Molly Cook
State Senator, District 15
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Daphne Alcala (512) 463-0115 September 3, 2025
Senator Molly Cook on the Passage of House Bill 7
AUSTIN, TX – After the passage of House Bill 7, Senator Molly Cook offered the following
comment:
“Decades of research prove medication abortion is statistically safe, but that doesn’t
mean it is easy. It can be scary, isolating, painful, and deeply emotional. No woman
should ever have to go through that experience alone. Women deserve medical
guidance, compassion, and community support. Texas women do not deserve to be
pushed into taking these medications in silence because their state has criminalized
every last person who might care for them.
“Instead of offering support, Texas is engaged in the systematic, abusive isolation
of women, and from my perspective, will stop at nothing to make sure there is
nobody left to help us. When Texas reaches across state lines to hunt down anyone
who dares to offer to help, the message is clear: women’s bodies belong to the state.
This is captivity. A state so desperate for control that it will violate principles of
federalism, interstate commerce, and basic human dignity just to ensure women
stay right where they want them. I became a nurse to help people, not to navigate
interstate legal warfare. Leave women alone. Let us be.”
