Following New Trump Tariffs on Prescription Drugs, Larson Calls for Vote to End Tax on American Consumers

Image September 26, 2025 Press Release East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) , a member of the House Trade Subcommittee, called for a full House vote on his bill to require Congressional approval before tariffs can be imposed on consumers, after the President announced plans for new tariffs on prescription drugs, trucks, and furniture. In April, Larson introduced a bill with Rep. Linda Sanchez (CA-38) and every Democrat on the Trade Subcommittee to require Congress to vote before these tariffs could go into effect. He is also a cosponsor of the Health Care Affordability Act to extend expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits that help 20 million Americans afford their premiums. According to the Yale Budget Lab, President Trump’s tariffs, even before yesterday’s new announcement, will cost the average family at least $2,300 per year. “Millions of Americans are already facing premium hikes of hundreds if not thousands thanks to Republican inaction," said Larson. “Now, the President is doubling down on his health care crisis, hiking the cost of prescription drugs and increasing prices on a new slew of goods ahead of the holiday season with yet another round of tariffs. Democrats have a bill to end this tax increase on American consumers now. If my Republican colleagues are serious about lowering costs for families, they will call a vote.” Issues : Affordability and the Economy Congressman Larson's Committees Health Care Standing Up to Trump and ‘DOGE’ Tax Policy
