Schumer Called On NPS To Release Congressionally-Approved Funds When Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site Was The Last Site To Receive Annual Operating Budget Following his push , U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer today released a statement announcing that the National Park Service (NPS) has released this year's annual federal funds for Buffalo’s Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site. Schumer said this funding is vital so the site can cover its bills, pay staff, and ensure the public can continue to access one of Western New York’s treasured historical sites. “The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site holds a special place in the hearts of Buffalonians. That’s why, when I found out it was the only unit in the entire National Park System that had not received its funding, I called on the NPS to release it immediately. Today, I’m proud to announce that the NPS heeded my call and has released the funding,” said Senator Schumer. “As the home of the place where President Roosevelt took the oath of office to become our 26 th president, and where President McKinley tragically died, Buffalo plays a critical role in the story of a presidency that reshaped the country. As we celebrate America’s 250 th birthday this year, I will keep fighting to ensure New York’s rich history is accessible to the public for generations to come.” Earlier this month, Schumer called on the NPS to release the site’s funds without further delay and asked why this site was the only NPS site without its annual federal funding and what the NPS will do to ensure a delay like this never happens again. ###
