Rep. Sykes Blasts House Republicans and Trump for Prolonging DHS Shutdown
March 27, 2026 Rep. Sykes Blasts House Republicans and Trump for Prolonging DHS Shutdown WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) released the following statement after voting against House Republicans’ latest proposal and criticizing their rejection of a bipartisan Senate agreement to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS): “The games need to end. A funding bill can only pass if it can get enough votes,” said Rep. Sykes. “But instead of working towards a solution, partisan bills with no chance of passage keep coming up for a vote and failing. Finger-pointing doesn’t get TSA employees paid. Finger-pointing doesn’t ensure disaster relief funds. And finger-pointing doesn't keep us safe. Let’s get a real solution on the floor and pass it immediately.” Rep. Sykes is continuing to uplift her bipartisan Pay Our Military Act , which ensures that service members, civilian Department of Defense personnel, Coast Guard members, reservists, and contractors receive uninterrupted pay during government shutdowns. Government shutdowns should never put our military families or national security at risk. Print Email Share Tweet
