U.S. Senator Katie Britt Directly Secures Over $111.3 Million for Alabama Priorities

WASHINGTON, D.C. —U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, today voted to pass a package of Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 appropriations bills, including: theFY26 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) Appropriations Act,theFY26 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) Appropriations Act,theFY26 Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) Appropriations Act,theFY26 National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Appropriations Act,andtheFY26 Defense Appropriations Act.
This package, which also includes a two-week Continuing Resolution for theFY26 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act,now goes back to the U.S. House of Representatives before heading to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law. Following the signing of this package into law, Senator Britt will have directly secured more than $200.7 million for the state of Alabama in FY26 appropriations funding.

The passage of this package of bills will invest in critical medical and research equipment, fund transportation and infrastructure projects across the state, strengthen military readiness, increase our servicemembers’ pay, and modernize our defense industrial base. With the finish line in sight, my work on the Appropriations Committee won’t stop until all 12 bills have been sent to President Trump’s desk. In theFY26 LHHSbill, Senator Britt directly secured more than $28.6 million for medical and research equipment at hospitals and universities, workforce development training, nursing education, mobile health units, and more.
Senator Britt also directly supported increasing total NIH funding by $415 million, funding for the NIH IMPROVE initiative, a priority Senator Britt has beenproud to championlegislation for in the Senate, by $10 million, and funding for Head Start by $85 million in theFY26 LHHSbill.
TheFY26 THUDbill includes $68.5 million in funding directly secured by Senator Britt for road and bridge projects, airport and rail infrastructure, public safety and emergency services, and technology and innovation investments.
In theFY26 THUDbill, Senator Britt also helped to secure $10 million for the National Scenic Byways Program, which includes the Alabama’s Coastal Connection, Natchez Trace Parkway, Selma to Montgomery March Byway, and Talladega Scenic Drive in Alabama, and $20 million for the Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS), which includes the Birmingham Northern Beltline.
In theFY26 FSGGbill, Senator Britt was proud to directly secure $14.2 million including for critical repairs at the Dothan Courthouse and Hugo Black Courthouse, and for the University of North Alabama and Athens State University to expand and enhance their innovation and entrepreneurial centers.
In theFY26 Defensebill, Senator Britt was proud to support funding the President’s request for a 3.8 percent pay raise for servicemembers and a 10 percent additional pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers authorized in theFY25 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA),an increase of $3 billion for munitions production and research and development, and an increase of $7.5 billion to address Department-identified needs.
