BIRDWELL ANNOUNCES TEXAS ARMED SERVICES SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
AUSTIN—State Senator Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) is pleased to announce that Mr. Kanon Sulak of
Midlothian is the Senate District 22 recipient of the Texas Armed Services Scholarship for 2025-26. This
prestigious award enables Sulak to receive a scholarship of up to $10,000 annually throughout his four years
of college.
"Out of the highly talented group of individuals who applied to my office for the scholarship, Sulak stood out as
the most qualified candidate," said Sen. Birdwell, a retired Army lieutenant colonel. "It was with great pride that
I was able to offer this nomination to Sulak, a young man who represents the next generation of men and
woman stepping up to serve our country in the defense of the ideals that we cherish."
A recent graduate of Midlothian High School, Sulak showed high academic rigor while displaying knowledge
and confidence in several leadership positions at the school. He served as Company Commander of his Junior
ROTC program and was an active member of both the Raider and Land Navigation National Competition
Teams during his high school career. Sulak was also a member of several sports teams, including baseball,
track, the Wounded Warrior Skeet Shooting Team, and serving as the Co-Captain of the swim team. In the fall,
he plans to attend the University of Texas in Austin and will participate in their ROTC program. Sulak will
pursue a degree in business and plans on becoming an officer in the United States Army.
The Texas Armed Services Scholarship was created to assist promising students from throughout the state
who are committed to education and service. It encourages young leaders to participate in the Texas Guard,
Army National Guard or Air National Guard, or to become commissioned officers in the United States armed
services.
