Schumer Reveals: as Trump SAYS HE “loves the Inflation,” NEW YORK Families Forced to Spend $4,000+ MORE PER YEAR on Everyday Essentials
New Report Shows NY Families Have Had To Pay $4,000+ More On Necessities Like Housing, Groceries, Gas, Utilities, And Health Care Due To Trumpflation Schumer Says Trump Should Focus On Lowering Costs For Hardworking Families Instead Of Building A Gilded Ballroom For Parties With His Billionaire Buddies And Starting A Reckless War In Iran Schumer: Trumpflation Is Costing NY Families After Trump said he “loves the inflation,” U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer revealed a new report showing New York families have paid over $4,000 more for everyday essentials – like gas, housing, utilities, and healthcare – since President Trump took office. Though Trump promised to “end inflation,” costs for New Yorkers continue to skyrocket because of Trump’s failed policies like tariffs, cuts to vital programs, and his reckless war in Iran, which has spiked food and fuel prices. “Trump may ‘love the inflation,’ but New Yorkers paying $4,000 more for everyday essentials sure don’t. Since President Trump took office, his disastrous policies have left New York families paying sky-high prices for the items they need every day,” said Senator Schumer. “Trump has already sent prices soaring for gas and diesel, groceries, utilities, health care, and nearly every aspect of life, and now he is actively making the affordability crisis he created even worse. Instead of building a golden billion-dollar ballroom and starting a reckless war in Iran, Trump needs to focus on lowering costs for hardworking New York families.” Despite President Trump’s repeated pledges on the campaign trail that his administration would “end inflation” and bring down costs for families, Trump has instead sent prices through the roof. His inflation-inducing tariffs have cost families more than $1,700, his reckless war in Iran has caused oil, fertilizer, and food prices to surge, while his cuts to health care, food aid, and clean energy have pushed premiums and utility bills higher and made it harder to put food on the table. The new report from the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee breaks down just how much more New York families are paying for: Housing Costs New York families have had to spend $871 more on housing costs like rent and mortgage payments since President Trump took office. Grocery Costs Americans paid $310 more for groceries in President Trump’s first year compared to 2024, and grocery prices are now 4 percent higher than when Trump took office last year. Beef and coffee prices are hitting Americans especially hard. Since the President took office, the average price of ground beef has risen almost every month to a record high of nearly $7 per pound. Coffee prices also spiked and are now nearly $10 per pound. These price spikes come as states are forced to implement Trump and Republicans’ $187 billion cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the largest cut to food assistance in history. Less than a year after Trump signed these cuts into law, more than 147,176 New Yorkers and more than 3.5 million people nationwide have lost this vital support to help them afford groceries while prices skyrocket, representing a 5% decline in SNAP participation across the state and 9% nationally. Energy Costs Gas prices have soared since the start of Trump’s Iran War. In total, people across New York have spent $2 billion more on gas since the beginning of the war. That means the average family in New York has spent $298 more on gas in this time. For a family in New York who drives the most popular pickup truck, they now have to spend $160 to fill up their tank, a 48 percent increase compared to before the war. Families in New York paid $190 more for electricity in 2025 under President Trump than they did in 2024. New York families who use heating oil paid $248 more to heat their homes this March compared to last year. Health Care Costs Because of Trump and Republicans’ refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax cuts that help people afford their health insurance, average monthly premiums for ACA plans rose more than 50 percent in 2026 compared to last year. Meanwhile, deductibles surged to record highs, increasing by more than $1,000 on average. In recent months, Schumer has rolled out a series of policy plans to counter Trump’s failed policies and finally bring relief to working Americans. Schumer has released an agenda to lower the costs of housing , food , energy , and health care . ###
