Cortez Masto Celebrates $2,398,000 Secured to Support Nursing Students at UNLV Clinical Simulation Center

Las Vegas, Nev. –Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined representatives from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and University Medical Center (UMC) to celebrate the $2,398,000 the Senator secured for the UNLV Nursing Education Innovation program. This funding will be used to buy clinical simulation training equipment for undergraduate and graduate students at the Clinical Simulation Center.
“UNLV is leading the way in making sure that future nurses enter the workforce ready for anything and everything,”said Senator Cortez Masto.“After Republicans’ massive cuts to health care across America, it’s even more important to make sure that our communities have access to the best health care available and are treated by the best nurses and doctors around. I’m proud to have secured this investment in our region’s nurses and will continue to fight for them in Washington.”
Alongside UNLV School of Nursing Associate Dean for Entry and Prelicensure Education Angela Silvestri-Elmore, Ph.D., APRN, FNP-BC, CNE; UNLV School of Nursing Professor Jennifer Vanderlaan, Ph.D., MPH, CNM; UNLV Data Analytics Department Chair Kazem Taghva, Ph.D.; and UMC Chief Nursing Officer Debra Fox, the Senator also toured the Clinical Simulation Center to learn about the investments UNLV is making in nursing education, like the incorporation of new and emerging technologies into their education to prepare them for the challenges of the future.
