Mike Levin’s Statement on the Republican-Led Government Shutdown Washington, D.C .—Tonight, Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) released the following statement regarding the Republican-led government shutdown that started at midnight: “The government is now shut down because Congressional Republicans and President Trump chose to let it close. Federal workers will miss paychecks, services people rely on will be delayed, and families will feel the strain in their daily lives. “Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. They refused to negotiate with Democrats on a bipartisan path forward. Instead, Speaker Johnson sent House Republicans home without a deal, and President Trump resorted to mean-spirited social media posts instead of serious leadership. We are in this situation because of their choices. “I am ready to work across the aisle to reopen the government, protect Americans’ health care, and prevent families in our community from facing higher premiums.
