Hinson Applauds Passage of FY27 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Funding Bill

Image May 15, 2026 Press Release Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-02) released the following statement following the House passage of the FY27 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies (MilCon-VA) Appropriations Bill. “I was proud to vote for this critical funding that supports our heroes in uniform — both active duty and veterans — in every way possible. A strong military depends not just on the men and women in uniform, but on the families carrying the load back home. That’s why this bill invests in childcare, military housing, and the day-to-day quality-of-life needs that matter to military families. It also fully funds veterans’ healthcare and benefits, prioritizes mental health, and the readiness needed to confront growing threats and keep Americans safe. Supporting those who serve our country is nonnegotiable, and I will keep fighting to ensure our military heroes receive the care they deserve.” — Congresswoman Ashley Hinson Rep. Hinson advocated to secure the following legislative wins in the MilCon-VA appropriations legislation: Robust funding for rural health and rural mental healthcare through the Rural Access Network for Growth Enhancement (RANGE) Program, authorized by Rep. Hinson’s Sgt. Ketchum Rural Veterans’ Mental Health Act , signed into law in 2021 . A historic $38.5 million investment for the 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City, providing long-overdue resources that will keep the runway operational to support Iowa’s Air National Guard and its essential national security mission. Requires the VA to address gaps in dental care coverage and ensure our veterans have access to quality dental care needs. Highlights of bill: Fully funds veterans' healthcare. Provides an advance appropriation for the Toxic Exposures Fund. This follows Rep. Hinson's push to ensure veterans facing devastating diagnoses are not forced to battle bureaucracy while coping with overwhelming physical and mental pain. Includes $900 million for medical and prosthetic research. Prioritizes mental health, suicide prevention, and homelessness programs. Includes more than $19 billion for military construction. Invests in barracks improvements, strengthens investments in Department of War laboratories, supports the demolition of obsolete infrastructure, and provides nearly $2 billion for military housing.
