Landsman Bill to Help Ukraine Locate and Track Abducted Children Passes in National Defense Policy Bill

<p><strong><em>Cincinnati, OH –</em></strong><em> Today, Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH-01) announced his bipartisan bill to help Ukraine locate and track their abducted children by Russia was included and passed in the National Defense Authorization Act.</em></p>

<p>The Yale School of Public Health’s Humanitarian Research Lab estimates up to <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/09/17/nx-s1-5544256/russia-ukraine-war-children-military-training-reeducation-yale">35,000 children from Ukraine</a> have been kidnapped and deported to Russia during the war.</p>

<p>To ensure these children are returned home, Congressman Landsman’s bipartisan bill – the <em>Abducted Ukrainian Kids Recovery and Accountability Act</em> – will reestablish the U.S. Department of State&#8217;s program&nbsp;to provide the Ukrainian government with technical and training assistance to locate and track the abducted children.</p>

<p>Landsman’s bill was included in Congress’ National Defense Authorization Act, which passed the House on Wednesday.</p>

<p>In March, Congressman Landsman uncovered that <a href="https://landsman.house.gov/posts/landsman-sends-letter-to-sec-rubio-bessent-regarding-ongoing-abductions-of-children-from-ukraine">funding for a State Department program</a> to track missing children from Ukraine was terminated. He sent a letter to Secretary Rubio, leading the State Department to&nbsp;<a href="https://landsman.house.gov/posts/landsman-leads-20-members-of-congress-in-letter-to-state-department-urging-restoration-of-funding-to-track-kidnapped-ukrainian-children">temporarily resume funding</a> for the program.</p>
