Wyden, Merkley Announce $1 Million to Support Addiction and Recovery Services in Southern Oregon
Wyden, Merkley Announce $1 Million to Support Addiction and Recovery Services in Southern Oregon October 27, 2026 Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley today announced $1 million in federal awards to help support addiction treatment and recovery services in Josephine County. “Accountability and recovery must go hand-in-hand if we want safer, healthier communities across Oregon,” Wyden said. “Josephine County’s treatment court has proven that folks struggling with substance use and mental health challenges can turn their lives around when they have real wrap-around support. This federal investment will break down the everyday barriers that derail recovery so participants have a genuine shot at lasting stability and a second chance.” “Drug treatment courts have shown that we can address addiction and substance abuse head on while also preserving families and rehabilitating Oregon communities,” said Merkley. “These federal funds will go toward expanding this tried-and-true program in Josephine County so more folks can access the addiction and mental health services they need.” The $1 million federal award from the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance will be disbursed to the Josephine County Drug Court Enhancement Project. The project aims to reduce barriers to treatment, strengthen social recovery networks and improve participant stabilization by adding dedicated case managers, a peer support specialist, recovery-based housing assistance, transportation supports and team training. Participants will receive individualized assessments, treatment planning, referrals to behavioral health and residential programs and access to employment and family support services. “This $1 million grant represents a significant investment in Josephine County’s Drug Court program and our commitment to helping individuals overcome substance use challenges. By expanding access to treatment, case management, and recovery support services, we can help participants achieve long-term stability while strengthening public safety in our community,” said Scott Hyde, Josephine County Community Justice Director. ###
