IN CASE YOU MISSED IT… Sen. Rick Scott Leads Bipartisan Effort to Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent
March 7, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C.
— In case you missed it, Senator Rick Scott is renewing his push to make Daylight Saving Time across the U.S. permanent with his
Sunshine Protection Act
.
As families prepare to spring forward to Daylight Saving Time this Sunday, this legislation will finally put an end to the outdated practice of changing the clocks twice a year by making Daylight Saving Time the national year-round standard. In 2018, as Governor of Florida, Senator Scott signed legislation which, pending federal approval, would exempt Florida from the time change practice and allow the state to remain on Daylight Saving Time year-round.
Senator Scott is joined by 17 of his bipartisan colleagues in the Senate. Congressman Vern Buchanan is leading the companion legislation in the House of Representatives.
Senator Rick Scott
said,
“Americans are sick and tired of changing their clocks twice a year – it’s an unnecessary, decades-old practice that’s more of an annoyance to families than a benefit to them. President Trump and the American people are on board with locking the lock, and now it’s time we pass the
Sunshine Protection Act
to make Daylight Saving Time permanent. Let’s give families in Florida and across the nation the much-needed benefit of more sunshine and make this ‘spring forward’ the last one!”
Congressman Vern Buchanan
said, “There are tremendous health, economic and productivity benefits to making daylight saving time permanent. It’s clear that Americans want to do away with changing their clocks twice a year, and my bill will end this outdated practice. Just recently, we’ve had very promising conversations with House leadership, Energy and Commerce committee members and administration officials about holding hearings and acting on my bill this Congress. Florida lawmakers have already voted to make daylight saving time permanent, and Congress should pass the
Sunshine Protection Act
to move Florida and the rest of the country to year-round daylight saving time.”
