Because of Trump’s tariffs, war in Iran, and his “One Big Beautiful Bill,” Latino families are paying more for everyday essentials and seeing fewer opportunities to get ahead. “Donald Trump’s economy is a disaster for Latinos in Nevada. Anyone who’s willing to work hard should have a fair shot at getting ahead, but that’s become almost impossible under Trump’s leadership,” said Senator Rosen. “Families are paying more for gas, groceries, health care, and housing, all while our tourism industry declines as a result of Trump’s policies. I’m committed to helping every Nevadan live the American Dream, and I’ll keep working to bring down costs and expand opportunities for Nevada families.” “This report confirms what Nevada families have known for months: under the Trump economy, it’s getting harder to put food on the table and a roof over your head,” said Senator Cortez Masto . “From his blanket tariffs to his reckless war in Iran, everything this President is doing has driven up costs for Latinos in Nevada. Every family deserves the chance to get ahead, and I’m going to keep doing everything I can to reverse President Trump’s disastrous policies.” Below is a breakdown of how Trump and Washington Republicans’ policies are hurting Latino families in Nevada. Gas and Groceries Trump’s war in Iran has cost Latinos in Nevada about $230 million extra at the gas pump since the war began, which breaks down to an additional $659 per family . Latinos account for more than a quarter of Nevada SNAP participants, including over 48,000 Latino children. As a result of Donald Trump’s cuts to SNAP in the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” 38,000 Latino Nevadans have lost their SNAP benefits, including as many as 16,000 children. Trump’s first year in office cost Latinos in Nevada an additional $108 million on groceries, which is $310 per family. Trump’s mass deportation agenda is taking immigrant workers off the job, and as a result, prices are rising in sectors like agriculture that depend on immigrant labor. More than 60% of farm laborers nationwide are Latino , and the vast majority are immigrants. Targeting of this workforce has led to a 32.1% increase in lettuce prices, a 7.1% increase in apple prices, a 6.3% increase in fresh citrus prices, and a 7.9% increase in canned fruit prices. Economic Opportunity The tax provisions in Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” disproportionately benefit the top one percent of earners and leave the working class behind. Individuals working in food preparation and service will lose about $820 in 2026. More than half of Nevada’s hospitality workforce is Latino. Maids and housekeeping cleaners will lose about $830 in 2026. Latinos make up nearly half of this workforce nationally. Nevada is home to more than 72,000 Latino-owned small businesses , accounting for over 22% of all Nevada small businesses. Trump’s across-the-board tariffs have cost these businesses a total of $8.6 billion. Leisure and hospitality small businesses have seen a 15.2% decline in monthly revenue. Construction small businesses have seen an 18% decline in revenue. Since Trump returned to office, tourism to Las Vegas has declined by about ten percent , with Canadian tourism – the number one source of international visitation to Las Vegas – down even more as a result of Trump’s tariffs and attacks directed at Canada. Latinos make up 54% of Nevada’s hospitality workforce and are seeing fewer shifts and fewer tips as a result of the decline
