Kamlager-Dove to Run for Co-Chair of House Democrats’ Messaging Apparatus

Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) announced her candidacy for Co-Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) , a key leadership position within the caucus that helps develop messaging and communication strategies for House Democrats. Rep. Kamlager-Dove announced her intentions in the following letter to colleagues: Dear Colleague: As this week will likely be our last together before the critical November elections, I wanted to respectfully ask for your support in serving as Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC). After what I believe will be a historic election for our caucus, Americans will look to House Democrats for leadership through the remaining years of the dreadful Trump presidency. I want to serve as a bridge between leadership and my fellow colleagues as we face the monumental challenges ahead. My decision to run for DPCC Co-Chair was born from the misery and anguish of the 2024 presidential election. A major lesson from that loss was that our party did not do enough to communicate with voters where they were through the new media landscape of social media, creators, independent journalists, podcasts, and other emerging platforms. So I threw myself into all of it to learn, experiment, and most importantly, break through. After Trump’s illegal actions in his first months in office, I launched Is This Sh*t Legal? to cut through the noise and explain what made those actions illegal, why they mattered, and how Democrats were fighting back. My favorite part of this series was bringing so many of you in and watching your authenticity and passion shine through. I’ve also prioritized building lasting relationships with creators, podcasters, and independent journalists so we’re consistently reaching their audiences and making sure our message is part of the conversation year-round. What’s important to me as a member of this caucus is ensuring that any progress we make benefits all of us. Because I know our strength and success as a caucus depends on our unity. We cannot create an affordable America or hold Trump accountable as solo actors on a stage. That’s why I have made it a priority to collaborate with so many of you, proudly filming with more than a quarter of our caucus this term–with some members joining me two, three, even four times. Building on this unity framework, one of my biggest goals, if elected Co-Chair, is to connect the incredible creative talent in my home city of Los Angeles to the Democratic Caucus. Hollywood understands how to tell complicated stories in compelling, accessible ways that meet people where they are. I want to build a stronger bridge between our members and the writers, producers, storytellers, and digital creators who can help us communicate our agenda, connect with voters, and move people to action.
