Rep. Sykes Votes to Certify 2024 Presidential Election
January 06, 2025 Rep. Sykes Votes to Certify 2024 Presidential Election WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) issued the following statement upon voting to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election: “Today, I voted to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election, an important power, bestowed upon Congress by the United States Constitution. The American people voted to elect a president, and it is Congress’ duty to ensure the will of the people is upheld. “Four years ago today, thugs and criminals attempted to weaponize the certification process to overturn the results of a free and fair election. As the Capitol was desecrated, more than 100 Capitol Police officers were injured, some of whom eventually lost their lives. It was a dark day in our nation’s history, and it is incumbent upon myself and my colleagues in Congress to ensure that never happens again. “We have a lot of work to do in the 119th Congress, and I hope that the election certification will symbolize the first step of upholding of democratic norms and working for the American people.” Print Email Share Tweet
