Griffith Announces $1,055,800 DOT Grant to VA Highlands Airport Commission
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded Virginia Highlands Airport Commission, based in Abingdon, Virginia, a $1,055,800 grant. The funding supports a project to construct four new 3,600 square foot hangars for aircraft storage. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement: “This DOT grant for more than $1 million helps Virginia Highlands Airport Commission create aircraft storage space for a major Abingdon general aviation transportation spot. As a result, this will hopefully allow for more visiting aircraft, and therefore more visitors, to come to the region.” BACKGROUND Virginia Highlands Airport has received federal funding in previous years to expand its runway. This project will assist the airport to be as self-sustaining as possible by generating revenue. ###
