Senator Kim Honors America’s 250th with Student Celebration at New Jersey State Museum
TRENTON, N.J. – On Wednesday, Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) joined students from across New Jersey at the State Museum in Trenton to commemorate America’s 250 th birthday and celebrate winners of his office’s ‘Honoring America 250’ competitions, which included art, essay, and policy submissions. As the next generation of New Jersey leaders, Senator Kim asked students to think critically about the past while looking toward the future, exploring lessons learned throughout the first 250 years to better shape and inform the next 250. “While we mark America’s milestone birthday, future generations will be the ones leading our country through the next 250 years,” said Senator Kim. “Today’s celebration confirmed that the future of New Jersey is a bright one, with our next generation of leaders already thinking critically about ways to make our union a more perfect, caring one. I head back to Washington inspired and committed to continue fighting for a future these kids deserve.” Click here to see a collection of photographs with the winners Throughout the evening, winners read their essays aloud, had their winning works of art on display, and pitched their winning policy proposals directly to Senator Kim, who gave feedback in real time and demonstrated the thought process that America’s legislators go through every day when making policy decisions that will have real-life impact on our country. Winners of the student competitions include: ESSAY: Elementary School – Mila Choen (4 th grade) from North Haledon. Middle School – Eric Lucy (7 th grade) from North Warren. ART: 1 st place – Jessica Kim (9 th grade) from Harringon Park. 2 nd place – Oceane Qian-Feuillat (10 th grade) from Jersey City. POLICY: Radhika Sharma from Colts Neck for their proposed bill, the Student Caregiver Academic Equity Act. Kayrina Hartley from Blairstown for their proposed bill, Bridge the Gap Act. Cindy Alberto Bonetti from Vorhees for their proposed bill entitled, The Congressional Happenings Accessible for Students Everywhere (CHASE) Act. ###
